Who is / was Mr Berridge?

  1. I have seen some stuff about the Mr Berridge Cycle Challenge. There is
a somewhat Larringtonian sound to this event., but who is/was Mr
    Berridge and why the challenge?

The Mr Berridge Cycle Challenge is a recreation of a bike ride
apparently made in 1907 when Mr Berridge cycled 16.5 miles in under
1.5 hours whilst carrying a load of 150lbs. Why he did it, who he was
or what he carried does not appear to be clear!

That may be because the modern challenge involves ferrying kegs of
strong cider around and no doubt quaffing the odd bucketful at the end
to reduce the thirst caused by riding a bike with a hundredweight or
more of cider on it in the first place. After a day of doing that I
suspect many participants can't recall where they live much less who
    Mr Berridge was.

Better to drink it all before you leave. Then you have a much ligher
    load to carry.

If you drink it all before leaving, you will have no difficulty in
    finding a hedgerow*.
While staying on the road may be possible by just steering between
those that are apparent to you, you should resist the urge to do the
    same with oncoming motor vehicles.

*It'll be the place you wake up.
