23 lines of a badly formatted post with less than 2 lines of content.
Maybe you should look at making your posts easier to read, as well as
getting rid of the PGP rubbish - no-one takes any notice of it anyway.

Personally I find Guy's posts very easy to read. I don't see what the
problem is. If we're going to be complaining about badly formatted
messages there are more obvious targets, IMO.

(I'm speaking entirely personally, not as a moderator, except to say
that the moderators don't reject messages for formatting reasons.)

Errrmm, a few people do, me included, and given even quite recently
people have been taking faking Guy it seems reasonable(ish) on Guys
part. It was a few minutes to set up T'Bird to deal with them. Now
while I sympathise to some extent, either killfile Guy and move along,
    or set up the PGP.

    For T'Bird users http://enigmail.mozdev.org/home/index.php.html.

There are also good reasons for Guy to use PGP. There have been
numerous forged posts puporting to come from Guy. I don't check each
post for authenticity but when there is a suspect one, its easy to check
whether its really Guy or not.

Ditto here - I just get it marked to show it is PGP signed.

I don't have a problem with guys posts using it.

No idea if MacSoups way of dealing with PGP sigs can be improved though

Do you know a way in Agent to get rid of that gobbledygook?

  9. not that i'm aware of, macsoup is a old program, and has minor bug fixes
and platform tweeks but is the same program. ie predates windows 95 etc.

But regardless PGP messages are rare, and to be honest fairly pointless,
you can make at least a first glance a spoof, if by copy and paste of
the PGP sig. and then the normal spoofing of email/client and so on.

after all trolls don't need the spoof to stand up long just to be first
    glance.

some folks may check but they will be a rarety.

Unless your newsreader automatically displays in the message window that
the signature is bad, then you know at first glance that it's fake.

  12. there maybe some, but how many do it out of the box? ie not set up?

But regardless this seems to keep coming up so clearly while some modern
usenet progams may well, I suspect I'm not alone in using very old
    software that doesn't

Nothing will do it totally unprompted because you need to install the
public key for each PGP poster. I don't recall if it was a standard or
    optional plugin for Claws.
Surely people either think it's worth putting up with, get a newsreader
that can handle it, or block signed posts, and the noise is just from
    people who don't understand that?

  14. guy is the only person that has PGP posts on the groups I read and
suspect for most others on the cycling groups so changing a reader just
for one person seems unlikely at extreme I guess I'd kill file.

which doesn't alter the fact that the sig is lot more than the message,
which for usenet does seem wrong.

I'd forgotten about you, the PGP bit, though your sig is a lot lot
shorter, and I don't have to trim it as it's reconised as a sig.

That's because he uses Mime multipart posts, which is a bit too much
like Microsoft's vision of "HTML everywhere with ugly wallpaper and
stupid fonts" for some people, but can look neater in clients that
    support it.

How do the moderators determine if authentication is important?

In view of the forgery and sockpuppetry we've seen in the past, we
feel any poster who wishes to cryptographically sign their articles
should be free to do so.
