The Tour of Britain manages to run their event with rolling road
closures, a procedure which the Police have perfected. Could this not
    have been used for London/Surrey?
I believe the proposed TV company for the Oly's has no expertise in
covering a cycling road race. We have lots of exciting race events
covered by TV companies. Could not one of these have been hired for this

If it was just a one off Surrey-London Classic I dare say a rolling
closure /may/ have worked, but this was an Olympic road race rehearsal
and /that/ will have to be on fully closed roads with all that entails.

We have had fully closed roads before when the Tour came for what many
riders still think of as the best Grand Depart of recent years. I think
that this time there wasn't enough publicity of the closures.

  3. Olympic rules say the roads have to be fully closed.

They don't say the route has to go up a hill 9 times where there is no
access to view it though. That is a special from the organisers.

I'm not holding out any home that the TV coverage will be anything other
than crap, that is if they even bother showing it live.
